Get Lit. Against Domestic Violence
It is time, loves. Planning has begun for our fourth annual Get Lit. Against Domestic Violence fundraiser. This page will serve as a headquarters for volunteer opportunities, resource sharing, planning, and execution.
What is Get Lit. Against Domestic Violence?
Every year we transform the October open mic into a public speak-out against domestic violence and a fundraiser for Center for Prevention of Abuse. Like previous years, the fundraiser will include a bake sale, a silent auction filled with goods and services from popular local businesses and talented artisans, and a donation drive for both monetary and approved non-monetary goods. The speak-out portion is open to anyone who wishes to perform poetry, story, or song on the topic of domestic violence. For more information, you can read my Save the Date blog post from last year's event here.
Currently, our biggest need is people willing to seek out and secure donations of goods, gift baskets, vouchers for services, gift cards, etc. from local businesses, artisans, and individuals that will be placed into our silent auction. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit Center for Prevention of Abuse. Below, you will find the donation request letter that should be used for all requests, whether made in person or through email. Please report all secured donations and how they will be delivered (will you or the business deliver items to us, or do we need to arrange a volunteer to pickup and deliver?) to including the following information from the donor(s) wherever possible:
a short blurb about the item(s) being donated including the retail value, information about the donor's business, and any relevant social media links.
This information is important so that Lit. on Fire and our volunteer network can drum up excitement for the event while showing gratitude to the generous donors that make this silent auction a huge success every year.
Volunteers, please note that the sooner we receive the donations in store, the better. This gives us the opportunity to photograph and share these along with the given information regularly leading up to the event.
New this year
Goodie Bags-- We have decided this year to give our gracious donors an added opportunity to make their donation count. We will be collecting marketing materials, coupons, advertisements etc. from our donors this year and assembling them into "goodie bags" to be given out to every attendee that evening. We hope to receive enough materials to fill around 30-50 bags.
More details will be available soon, so keep an eye on this page and be sure to let our donors know about this exciting new opportunity when making your request!
Do you love to bake for a great cause? We are looking for folks to donate breads, cakes, bars, cookies, etc. to the bake sale portion of our event. Please email us at if we can count on you to make this year's bake sale even more delicious!
